Auto Brewer
A good machine, a paper filter and a full carafe. About 4 to 6 minutes from the switch to the first sip.
What Is an Auto Brewer?
An auto brewer is a drip coffee machine that does the pouring for you. It heats the water and showers it over ground coffee in a paper filter, and the coffee drips into a carafe below. You weigh, grind and switch it on, and the machine takes it from there. Popular auto brewers include the Moccamaster and the Bonavita.
Why It's Great
It makes a lot of good coffee with very little effort. A good machine keeps the water hot and steady, so the coffee comes out the same every time. It's the easiest way to make coffee for a few people at once.
What You'll Love
Pressing one button before you've had your coffee. The sound of it dripping while you get on with your morning. A full carafe on the table, ready when everyone is.
Our Auto Brewer Recipe
- Use 1 part coffee to 16 parts water. We start with 60 g of coffee and 960 g of water.
- Grind medium.
- Rinse a paper filter in the basket, add the coffee and shake it level.
- Fill the reservoir with the water and switch it on. When the water reaches the coffee, give the grounds a gentle stir.
- Making a smaller batch? Use at least 40 g of coffee. If your brewer has a half-batch setting, use it for 750 g of water or less.
- When it stops dripping, after about 4 to 6 minutes, swirl the carafe and pour.
- Taste, then change one thing. Too bitter? Grind a little coarser next time. Too watery? Grind a little finer.
